John, you have saved me on more than one occasion - my Bahamas Project, Upstate house and multiple NYC projects - Thank you so much! What some folks may not know is that John had a thriving business in NYC, which is where we first met, and now has brought amazing, interesting, well built custom pieces from around the world to upstate NY. First of all, this is not an easy thing to do in NYC let alone Callicoon, NY. I simple love getting to come see what's new over the weekends. Good man, good furniture, good service. thanks Karkula. and thanks John! Xo

Paid a fortune for a Hooper table in the beginning of AUGUST and still have not received it (now it's Jan). Have called and emailed multiple times and still no ETA. My calls not returned. Want my money back and to be done with this store! ***UPDATE in response to your post Sept 8 2018. John--not sure why you are responding online to my review now after two years.
I had a bad experience with your company and frankly left the worst details out of my review at the time. If others had better experiences and left better reviews this would be a statistical blip. You took 50% of almost $17K of my money in August of 2015 and said you had ordered the table. After months of not delivering it and not returning my calls or emails I contacted the Extremis company in Germany.
Imagine my surprise when I found the "shipping delays" you claimed were all fabrications and that you had spent my deposit on who knows what, and had not actually put down the money on my table. It was not in production at all! I did not receive the table until the end of February 2016. Stop emailing me to try to get me to take down my review. I think you are a dishonest person and I do not recommend your company. Stop harassing me.

Excellent experience - I ordered some lighting elements which arrived on schedule. Incorrect elements were quickly replaced without issue. The owner is knowledgeable and always willing to assist and has great insight about design. He has gone out of his to source a fixture for me. Always courteous and prompt in his reply.

I am writing this to warn others. The phone is never answered here. This Williamsburg store is closed. I found out today that it, as well as Karkula's 2nd listed location [200 Lexington NYNY] has been closed since summer 2016., when I placed an order over the phone. After placing the deposit in June of 2016, I have not received an expensive custom rug order I was to receive by New Year's Day.
My final payment was made in December 2016 at John's request. Many excuses, including shipment container liabilities, are given to keep me hanging on. I last spoke to John, the owner, myself in February 2017, where he discussed the store was currently in the process of moving. John never mentioned the stores were closed / closing. I may not receive the funds back which I paid for my rug from Ruckstuhl, which listed Karkula as its US dealer.

This is a higher end art furniture store and I shop here for the select few clients that can afford the items. The sale style is hands off until you ask for help or information and then they are very helpful and will send information, tear sheets, etc. The owner/buyers have excellent taste and you can't go wrong with a purchase from Karkula.

We live on the same block as Karkula and have stopped in a couple of times to look for lighting and furniture. To say that we were ignored would be an understatement. The staff is completely self-aborbed and studiedly unfriendly. The last time, the guy never bothered to turn around and acknowledge us. he just sat there with his back to us, staring at his computer. We will never, ever, step foot back in that store. On to B&B Italia and Poltrona Frau.
