If I could give 0 stars, I would! We recently purchased 4 VERY expensive counter stools. When the stools came in, the store gave us the "left over" material used to cover them. There was 4.5 yards of "left over" material - enough to cover 4 or more stools! We paid $190 a yard for this material. I called and asked to be reimbursed for the extremely excessive amount of material that was ordered - clearly there was a big mistake.

The manager told me he would check into it and call me back. Didn't hear from him for several days so I called him again. He said "Oh yeah, I forgot to call you. We aren't going to reimburse you for anything. The manufacturer figures out how much material to order and we have nothing to do with it." I told him that a reputable company would reimburse a customer when there was clearly a problem with the quantity ordered (especially when the customer has made other purchases with the store!) He cut me off and said, "we won't be reimbursing you." I told him we wouldn't be shopping at this store ever again and he simply said "ok." OUR ADVICE IS NOT TO BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE - SHOP ELSEWHERE!

Short version: Spare yourself the headaches and do not shop here. If everything goes perfect then you might be happy, but if you have even a small issue expect frustration a huge time commitement chasing them down, and likely no resolution. Long version: I was happy with my salesperson and the sales experience, however, my overall experience has been horrible.

First they marred my walls and the brand new sectional during delivery. This is after having someone out to measure to ensure it would fit through my stairwell and landing. They finally managed to get it in but the back of the sofa was torn, a piece of metal was sticking out, the leg was gauged, and my drywall was damaged in multiple areas. After months (yes, months) they finally came to pick up the sofa and take it away for repairs.

Even though I had purchased a new sofa, I accepted their offer to repair it. It took a couple more months to have someone out to fix my walls, requiring multiple followups on my part. Finally they came and patched the walls and painted them. The paint did not match. After I told them they credited me $300 and told me to find someone on my own to do the repairs.

More time invested on my part to correct their issues. At this point I was so frustrated with them and tired of chasing them down that I accepted. The "fixed" sofa was finally delivered a couple months after that and the repairs were ugly. The lines on the seams were no longer straight and squared, the area of the repair was noticeably darker than other parts of the sofa, and the damaged leg was not even touched.

After months of requesting a resolution to my issues I am still left empty handed and regretting the entire purchase. It has been 13 months since we purchased the sofa and I had to send yet another email today that will likely go unanswered. I doubt they care given the horrible reviews here. Spare yourself the trouble and shop at a store where they value customer service.

My wife and I had not been to Shofer's in 30 years. We recently returned as we had been given an excellent price quote on an entertainment unit via email. We met Joyce, our sales rep, the next day at our designated appointment time. She proved to have an excellent sense of what we were looking for and never rushed us or tried to push us toward a particular piece of furniture.

We were impressed enough that we returned to Shofer's a week later to purchase even more pieces. Again, the professionalism displayed by Joyce was some of the best we have ever encountered. The final caveat for Shofer's was that Mr. Shofer was kind enough to price match a lower cost we had found for our entertainment center. Nice job, Shofer's!

For all of you who are happy with your purchases I hope you're still happy in a couple of years. My wife and I purchased a sofa, a dining room table, a living room chair and an ettegiere. The chair is fine probably since it's very rarely sat on. The dining room table has a glass top which has multiple scratches even though it probably hasn't been used a dozen times. Tried everything.

Nothing removes them. The ettegiere has a light inside which chooses to turn on by itself. The sofa is a total disaster. Ill fitting cushions. Sagging and a general mess. Shofers came out once or twice, said they couldn't fix and basically just walked away. DON'T SHOP THERE! They have poor quality and don't stand behind any of it.

My wife and I just had the most enjoyable furniture shopping experience today. Our sales associate was Joan and she was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in our quest for the perfect leather couch. She has worked there for over twenty-five years and it shows. We've been to numerous furniture stores and had done much research to be able to make an informed decision. My wife grew up in Baltimore and said, let's try out Shofers. I'm so glad she did because it puts the box stores to shame. Thank you Joan!

Love this store to find just the right pieces to finish a room. Great parking in the side of the store to park for free.

I ordered a very expensive custom couch and ottoman from Shofers and had the worst possible experience you can imagine. It took four months longer to receive the ottoman than originally promised despite me calling every week to ask its status, I was told "it should be in next week." When the couch finally arrived at the warehouse and delivered it was the wrong size.

Significantly smaller than what I ordered. The sales woman wrote down the wrong code when she placed the order so the dimensions were wrong. They had to reorder me the correct couch, which took many more months to receive since I picked out custom fabrics. When I asked if there was anything they could do to compensate me for their error, they said no.

They did however "loan" me the smaller couch to keep while waiting for the new one to get in, so I wouldn't be without furniture for my son's first birthday party. Finally when the new couch arrived, I offered to buy the smaller couch in addition to the bigger one, hoping they would maybe sell it to me at a discounted price since it was a custom couch that had been used for several months and also considering all the aggravation they had caused me the last few months. Well, when negotiating a price, they wanted to charge me the full price of the larger couch, and when I said that I thought it was dishonest they were planning to sell my used loaner couch to customers for such a high price, they decided to withhold deliver of my new couch until they came and inspected the loaner couch.

I think they passed judgement at me because I had a baby and assumed he damaged it. The couch however was in great condition, despite normal use of sitting on, it for several months. Before agreeing to deliver my new couch, Hank Shofer himself came into my house, inspected the couch and confirmed it was in great condition. However he said he was not able to send me my new correct couch for another week (despite it being at the warehouse) because he was convinced I had damaged the loaner (which I didn't) so he said he decided to cancel it before he came over and inspected it, despite the sales woman telling me they would deliver it later that day.

He was very short tempered and aggressive in his conversation. As you can imagine as this point I was frustrated they were withholding my couch for even more time and as any customer spending thousands of dollars should do, told him I was very disappointed in customer service and had waited at this point over 5 months for the correct couch. There was no accountability on their party for their error and I expressed my disappointment in a calm manner. Hank Shofer, the owner, proceeded to scream in my face in my home while I was holding my one year old son who was visibly upset.

He ran out of our house and slammed the door. After my husband followed him outside and calmly asked him if we were getting the new couch, he peeled off in his car and responded "I'll give it to you if I feel like it!" He also made an attack on my husbands family who have been loyal customers (big builders in the baltimore area) and spent a fortune with this company over many decades.

And then sped off. I was completely in shock and disgusted by his behavior. I ended up resolving the matter with the sales rep, and finally getting the correct couch a week later, and swapping out the loaner (which they still sold at their store, despite it living and being used in my house for many months). I paid full price and received the ottoman (not special order, yet somehow that took 5 months too) and couch almost half a year after originally placing the order.

I was sick about giving them so much of my money, and didn't want to give them my business, but I'm a new mom and didn't have the time to go look for a new couch as I had originally spent lots of time picking out fabrics etc. As a young buyer starting my family and in a new home, I was attempting to support a local small business, one that our family had used for many, many years.

Well now I know why all my other friends my age use online large chains such as pottery barn, wayfair and amazon instead. These small companies will not survive unless they focus on customer service, which clearly Shofer's does not. After this altercation I was very upset and disturbed. I've never in my life been treated with such disgust, especially in my own home and I front of my baby. I will not support such a company who treats people so terribly.

I called Shofers after finding good deal at an online retailer, as I wanted to support local (ish) brick & mortar before they all go out of business. Pat was my "sales" person and we made an appointment for me to go to Balto. from Bethesda. She promised me that there would be no issues with delivering to Bethesda, and it would not interfere with my workday.

Before hand, I sent Pat photos of my own furniture and of fabric photos I found online. When I arrived, she only had those samples I had picked, she must not be an interior designer, and she was of little to no help. Fortunately, my mother came with me and she has a creative eye, my mother helped me to pick out fabric while Pat went back to her office.

My mother came up with the idea of putting the expensive fabric on the back of the dining chairs as an accent and buying a less expensive coordinating fabric for the rest of the chair. Again, Pat did nothing. She did match the price of the online retailer (Goods Home Furnishings - which I will be using instead for any future purchases). The delivery turned out to be 3 months late, then I am told the truth that Shofers doesn't do weekend delivery and they only deliver to Bethesda on Thursdays. Meanwhile, had the delivery department called me back on the Tuesday when the furniture arrived in their store, or even that Wednesday, I happened to have that Thursday off and could have had my furniture delivered without having to take half a day off my workday.

The experience gets worse, when I ask for a smaller window of time so that I can make phone appointments for that Thursday morning I am forced to work from home, they said they cannot accommodate. The General Manager tried to claim that all companies have these delivery issues. I told her that I had a table delivered from Belfort Furniture on a Sunday and they gave me a 2 hour window.

I also had a weekend delivery from West Elm. And you know who else delivers on the weekends? Online retailers who are putting stores like Shofers out of business. The only "apology" I got from anyone in this store was from the GM who said, "I'm sorry you feel that way." Clearly she is not trained in customer service. Customer service is the only way that brick & mortar stores can compete with online retailers, and Shofers lacks the leadership to drive such a strategy. The only time I will go back to Shofers is for their Going Out of Business sale.

Terrible customer service! We own a rental property in Federal Hill, where we lived for some time before we had to move for work, and thought we would buy the mattress we needed from here. Nope! We didn't know this place closes at 5:30 on Saturdays and arrived at 5:10. It took 10 minutes for someone to even come out and help. And when we found the floor model we needed to take with us, we were told swiftly that no one would be helping us load/tie/carry it and I quote "Sir we will be closing in 6 minutes" When you are playing $1100 for a Queen mattress, a little courtesy would be appreciated especially since she is working in the SERVICE industry.

I worked in retail for many years, both on commission and not, and I would NEVER speak to a customer that way! Especially since its not about ONE sale, it's about ALL FUTURE SALES that the same person will be making. Needless to say, if we ever move back or need to furnish any other property, we will be staying away from this place

Weird place. I stopped in with my husband because we have been looking for a loveseat for quite a while. The receptionist called a consultant to meet with us. We started on the first floor in the "loft" section, which has clearance items, and explained to the consultant that we were looking for a loveseat. He said "none of these come in loveseats" and left it at that.

I asked if there were any loveseats for sale in the store. He explained that if I wanted a loveseat we would have to go through and see which models had loveseats and what styles and fabrics they came in and then sort of wandered off as if that process would be too much trouble. We were there for another 40 minutes or so looking through the different levels and never saw him again. Went to Sofas Etc on Joppa the next day and bought a beautiful loveseat with the assistance of a very helpful and pleasant salesperson. We'll be replacing our sofa over the next year I'll definitely and will definitely return to Sofas Etc. rather than the stodgy, odd Shofer's.

After waiting nearly four months, our bedroom furniture was finally delivered. When we placed the order, we explicitly stated we did not want a distressed finished and were assured this particular model was not distressed. Well, guess what? The pieces are distressed. I just notified the salesperson. Hopefully, the company will make this right. We also ordered pieces for our family room that are fine. I'd give the company 3 stars (due to the long wait) for the family room furniture and 1 star for the bedroom furniture.

Stopped in to Shofer's today while I had a few minutes in between work obligations to shop for a sectional. I put 30 minutes on my parking meter, figuring I pretty much knew what I wanted and that should give me enough time to take a look around and get an idea of the price. I walked in and was greeted by a receptionist who gave me a salesperson's card and said that he would come find me shortly.

I told her what I was looking for and she told me that items related to that were located on 3 levels and told me which ones, without asking any more questions that might help narrow my destination a little bit. I walked through all 3 levels (fairly quickly, but certainly not speed-walking) and even returned to one level to take another look. It was only when I returned to the ground level to take one more look around that I even saw a salesperson (playing on his phone, didn't even glance up when I walked by).

By the time I left, there were 7 minutes left on my parking meter, which means I spent 23 minutes in the store without being approached or offered help (other than when I entered.which didn't exactly pan out). The highlight of my trip to Shofer's was definitely the SmartWater I got at the CVS across the street. Guess I will have to figure out somewhere else to shop for and order the custom sectional I've been saving to buy.

Take a look at the first floor area called Shofer's Loft if you want to see stylish, fresh design that will even fit in a B'more row home. Well, maybe not if you have a circular staircase like my friends' - but then nothing fits upstairs there. Even if you just want some ideas or that perfect accessory to help create a look, it's worth the trip, and there is free parking!

I received furniture ordered in May this weekend, and I am mixed about my experience of ordering furniture. The order came in perfect and met my expectations, but the ordering and waiting process is another story. Shofer's is a huge store with a lot of samples on the floor. This is so helpful when you are placing custom furniture. My salesperson Alan was fine.

He helped me with fabric selections and I do like the leather ottoman he recommended and I ordered. I did shop the price with several NC outlets and Shofer's pricing was good (this was not always the case, I felt they were much more expensive 6 or 7 years ago when I ordered other furniture). Alan was a good order taker but never followed up with status updates with my order.

At the time of the sale, he indicated that my furniture would take 6 to 8 weeks. After 6 weeks, I began calling and got the run around. New dates were given and they were not met. Managers were no better with the lack of response. 6 more weeks past, and no furniture. Finally, I called and threatened to cancel my order. I truly felt that they had lost my order, it had not been placed and I was never going to receive my furniture.

I spoke with a senior person who assured me that it was placed timely and promised it would be in the following week. She followed up with me via email (preferred method for me) almost every day during the last week and scheduled delivery for me the day after the final piece was received. The delivery men were on time, delightful and did not scrape a wall and placed the furniture perfectly.

I understand custom furniture orders from more than one company is hard to coordinate. I know fabrics are out of stock and companies fall behind schedule. I just wish they had provide me timely accurate information when there were delays and did not wait for me to call them. I also think their receptionist needs customer service training. She was not helpful when I called and rude.

It is nice to support a local company and I hope that they stay in business. I don't order furniture frequently, but I would probably buy from them again since the product selection is great and pricing is very competitive.

This one star is at most.generous. With great disapointment, I am stuck with a 6000.00 (Highland House) sectional that might as well be a 500 dollar one. Pilling to the point when you sit down you feel like you are sleeping in cheap, bally sheets. To make matters worse, the management and customer service are the worst I've ever dealt with. I dont have the time or enegy to carry on about the disapointment and frustration I've endured. They have yet to return the pillow that I gave them to see (prove)the actually pilling, poor material. been over three months (i might add this is a ONE year old sectional!,

My husband and I recently furnished our new home with furniture from Shofers. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Ann Pumphrey, one of the store's designers, visited our new home and patiently worked with us to create the perfect look for each room. We were impressed by the range of brands, styles, and fabrics available through Shofers.

We contemplated a trip to the furniture stores in North Carolina but decided to stay with Shofers because of their variety, proximity, and competitive prices. Ann met with us almost every weekend for two months. She searched through thousands of fabrics and catalogs to find the right piece at the right price. The delivery team was professional, reliable, and knowledgeable about each piece of furniture. We recommend Shofers to friends and will continue to shop there as we put the final touches on our home.

I came here looking for a liquor cabinet/wine rack but they didn't have any. What they did have was a lot of overpriced furniture. It's absolutely amazing how much they're asking for furniture. However, the showroom is very nice and has four floors in Federal Hill. I guess this place would be good for really rich people but I can't imagine I'll be back. I can find similar quality and styled furniture for cheaper at Value City.

We had a great experience shopping at Shofers. After much browsing online and in large and small furniture stores, we can say without a doubt the selection at Shofers can't be beat. When you walk in you'll be greeted by a friendly receptionist- be sure to ask for Joyce. Shopping amidst 5 floors of fabulous furniture finds can be overwhelming, but having a trusty asset like Joyce makes all the difference. Joyce is the opposite of a typical pushy salesperson. It's clear she is as excited about your furniture purchase as you are and offers her objective opinion when overwhelmed by the choices.

We are happy we found such a sophisticated store that offers a wide variety of unique, well-made pieces. They have pieces for every taste- from traditional to modern. We look forward to returning when we upgrade from an apartment to a house. We are especially excited about their delivery service. Joyce advocated on our behalf to accommodate our hectic schedule and we'll be receiving our selections soon! (Be aware that there is a clearance center across the street from the main store which offers interesting pieces. It may be worthwhile to start there first to orient yourself to their selections before entering the massive showroom)

I went to both Shofer's main showroom and their outlet across the street. The selection for both stores was your Mother's style of furniture, massive sectionals, recliners, dining sets and china hutches. Their fabrics focus on large flower prints or on geometric patterns from the 70s. All I wanted was a couch and a oversized chair and ottoman in a simple color.

And I found some in both stores. I chose the one in the outlet store just because I am a cheapskate. That was my mistake. Having to deal with the frantic and religious zealot salesman, Alan, was intolerable. He repeatedly told me about how great George W. Bush was, how Rush Limbaugh was the only man who told the truth, and how all gays were going to hell.

And despite the fact, I asked him politely to stop, he would not. The worst part is that I bought the couch from him, despite his wackiness. Delivery for 99 dollars, was not worth it. They scratched my walls and were late. Overall a horrible experience, but I am hoping that the main store has better customer service.
