After immigrating to the U.S. from Hungary in the 1920's and with not a dollar in his pocket, Herman Brody bought an existing furniture store in McDonald, PA in 1931 (negotiating a promissory note with the seller). In 1934 he and his brother Leo opened a Brody's store in Canonsburg which Leo managed until 1947.
