Services
Ellen's is managed by a group of seasoned veterans of Washington area retail service, and manufacturing businesses. The group's current project is the regional expansion of futon sofabed stores across the Northeast corridor of the United States. Ellen's Futons has grown into one of the largest discounters of futon furniture and sofa convertibles in the nation.
There are three key ingredients to futon convertible couch: the frame, the futon mattress and the cover. If you want a great looking frame, and you want to be comfortable, don't sacrifice one or the other. Ellen's offers a huge selection of solid wood and metal futon frames, depending on whether you are looking for a more traditional piece or something a little more contemporary.
At our retail stores, Ellen's Futon Wholesalers, we offer a huge selection of in stock futon covers. We also have over 400 swatch samples in each store for custom fabrics. You can have custom pillows, window treatments, comforters, even buy loose fabric from our giant inventory. Prices for in stock covers start at $39 for a Full size solid cover, and many prints and heavy textures can be purchased for $49 - $89. The cover you slip on over your futon mattress is the key creative element to your futon couch creation.

The poor grade for quality may be our fault. Ellen's makes things pretty simple. 7 varieties of futon mattress from cheapie cheapie to "why'd you bother getting a futon?" We got the $200 Grade 2 because of a tight budget and my wife thought it felt good lying down on it. The terrific salesman suggested the 5 as he used it and enjoyed it. It had inner springs and we'd had a great futon that was batting only years ago and sought to repeat that experience.
Due to weight issues we worried the springs wouldn't last too. Well, the 2 was NOT a good choice for us. We sunk a pit in within a week. By three weeks we'd more or less flattened it out to a lumpy mess. The very short trial period didn't let us return it. (I don't know if more expensive mattresses offer longer return times.) Ellen's grades the Type 1 mattress for infrequent use and the two as a standard, but if the prices reflect quality, I wouldn't go lower than 2.
The 2 should be for a guest room that gets used maybe four days out of the year. Again, this is OUR fault. We dealt with two salespeople at Ellen's before our purchase and both likely steered us in the correct direction but didn't fight our decision. They were both immensely helpful to the point where I suspect they do NOT make a commission. The downside of this soft sell is that they won't warn you away from your own mistakes.
We loved the Ellen's store and their products are likely just fine, but you do need to know your needs OR be willing to trust the salesfolk and pony up the needed buckage. They won't try to upsell you, so be sure you don't talk yourself into pinching pennies. I would recommend Ellen's readily. This review reflects our own mistakes more than any shortcomings of the store.
