Today, over 126 years later, Mapes Furniture is in the same location and owned by the same family. In the early years, Mapes Furniture was Sunfield's largest employer with a significant Casket Building Operation supplying coffin demands throughout the Mid-west. Eventually Mapes moved into the manufacture of all facets of Home Furniture items including chairs, cradles, tables, benches, bedding and more. By the time that the early 1900's came around Mapes was a true 'Cradle to Grave' Resource for Michigan Residents.
I remember going to Mapes Furniture with my parents when I was young. Now I take my kids to Mapes Furniture! The owner, Becky and her staff are super nice, and buying furniture there is always a pleasant experience. They have all the latest styles and their interest free terms work great for us too.

Mapes is located in the small town of Sunfield, MI. I would wager that 95% of their business comes from the larger, surrounding towns of Grand Ledge, Ionia, Lake Odessa, etc. They should update their store hours on the internet rather than waste people's time and gas traveling many miles to be met with a hand written notice taped to their door saying they are closed til Jan 22. Also.had a past less than enjoyable experience with a rude and cantankerous older employee that treated us like we were her enemy.

Our family has been buying from Mapes for 3 generations now and the quality, experience and professionalism never ceases to amaze! A hidden gem! Much bigger than three store looks! Nice selection of QUALITY furniture! You can order different fabrics, etc too. My only criticism is they carry a BUNCH of reclining Best Furnishings pieces. But nothing stationary by that company, which is what I really wanted to try out and possibly purchase.

We were greeted promptly both times we shopped at Maples. Both of the salespeople we saw were very helpful. One of them pointed out things we probably would not have thought of. Another sales person was helpful and knowledgeable about an upholstery cleaner. The shopping experience was very enjoyable.

I bought a Best rocker recliner that was delivered on October of 2013. The chair is of inferior quality and will not stay reclined. I have pursued help from Mapes twice in the two years I've had the chair. I paid for the first service call and the chair was not fixed. I tried again, and once again they offered to come look at it for a $25 service fee. I declined. Will not shop here again.
