Berkeley Millwork and Furniture Co. is the world premiere cabinet and furniture maker. They also make custom Shoji screens. If you can afford them you should buy from them.

I rarely write a review but feel I must share our wonderful experience working with Berkeley Mills for our kitchen remodel. I had admired their cabinetry and furniture in the showroom for years and couldn't be happier that we chose to go with them. From the design process, through review and revisions to the build and installation they were great to work with.

As with most remodels problems arose. They problem solved and made changes when needed. The end product is beautiful and so delightful to work in with everything well designed and functional. In addition to the kitchen Berkeley Mills built custom shelving and a media cabinet in the adjoining family room and a bathroom vanity to match - it's perfect.

We own a 1930s mission style home in the Berkeley hills. Our challenge was decorating the breakfast nook off of the kitchen because it was small and functioned mostly as a pass through between kitchen and dining. We engaged Berkeley Mills to help us create and design a seating solution. Our decorator had suggested a "booth" or "banquette" due to space limitations, but I was concerned that a hard bench would not provide comfortable seating and cushions with pillows would slide around and end up on the floor.

Or someone would be sitting in "the crack". The design team at Berkeley Mills created a built-in piece of custom furniture that more than exceeded our expectations. A custom walnut banquette with matching trestle table now beautifully fills our nook. The ergonomically correct design of the back and seat create a comfort I did not believe possible with a banquette - and the quality of the wood selected is unsurpassed.

Simply gorgeous. The upholstery options were plentiful and we selected the perfect look for our space. We could not be more pleased. While the price of custom furniture is usually much higher than off the floor pieces, take a guided tour through Berkeley Mills workshop and be amazed. There is a reason Berkeley Mills reputation for excellence exists. We can honestly say that no one else could have met our furniture and design objectives better than Berkeley Mills.

I can't say enough about the design and craftsmanship of Berkeley Mills. I worked directly with Tiago and the designers to create four beautiful pieces for my home. They custom designed a headboard with built in light and storage that is gorgeous and useful. I also had a media cabinet and buffet. Each piece is perfectly balanced with beautifully matched wood and details. The craftsmanship was beyond my expectation. I feel lucky to have found them.

Years ago Berkeley Mills made our dining table and chairs and we returned recently for a Greene and Greene console table. Years ago we visited Berkeley Mills were delighted by their work, but then we already had furniture. Last year we visited them again, and this time, knowing more of what quality woodworking requires, we were even more impressed. We bought harp stools for our new home, and every day we marvel at them. Berkeley's design of the pieces, their selection of woods, their artistry in oriented the grain to complement the position of each piece, the perfect joinery and the rock solid feel of the stools in use all demonstrate that these are not ordinary craftsmen.

The finish makes you want to touch the wood. What's more, we found doing business with Berkeley Mills completely straightforward and the people there, including the owner, Mr. Agress, and the sales representative, Mr. Pinto, both informative and delightful. Everything went as they said it would, and we received our shipped order in perfect condition despite 2020. It has been a joy to have their work in our home.

I inquired with them about a kitchen remodel, Tiago responded very quickly and scheduled an appointment for us to come into the showroom. We met with Fritz, who showed us around before sitting down to talk about our project. He had out floor-plan printed out and we spent some time discussing the details of our layout. He was incredibly knowledgable about the entire process, gave us some great pointers to look out for, had great feedback and really listened to our needs.

It was great to get his point of view, I could tell he's a total pro at this! From there we discussed process and pricing. I've found it hard to get exact details and pricing from other companies, but he was open and upfront with budget exceptions, process, timeline, where they fit in, etc. It was so helpful to gain a better understanding of the details. I appreciated the strong knowledge and clear details from him! Would highly recommend this company to anyone that asked about a kitchen remodel.

Wow! Just WOW! We are in the initial planning stages of remodeling our kitchen and possibly front door. We are about two+ years out and given the nature of our House (An Eichler which I describe during my numerous reviews of lighting places) we need to do our diligence otherwise it will simply destroy the gestalt of the house. With these Mid Century Modern homes, changes can be problematic.

As part of this diligence we took a trip out to Berkeley Mills. We were blown away. We have some nice pieces in our home but the design and quality of the furniture they are making made our stuff look like we raided an Ikea. Fritz spent time taking my wife around looking at kitchen options and Emerson and I spoke at length about front door options and a bit about the design and customization process.

I was also treated to a tour of the huge shop where all of these custom pieces are made. The work is true artistry and the quality is undeniable. They have vaulted to the top of our list for the remodel of our kitchen.

Sorry. It doesn't matter how elegant or well-crafted the products are. The designer says she'll get back to you and then doesn't after one month. So what's the point of that? The message this sends is you should be so darn grateful to get their overpriced product that you'll do anything including waiting in silence forever to get it. Emerson is great but until he starts designing it's a pretty useless place. We will be taking our 100k somewhere else.

This place is the real deal. If you're serious about having something built that will last you a lifetime, Emerson is your man. I have never had such amazing service and attention to detail and I am thoroughly impressed with his knowledge and love of the craft. After hours of unsuccessful searching at lumber yards, I approached Berkeley Mills for a piece of wood of specific thickness for a cabinet repair. Fritz looked in the shop area and retrieved a scrap with the desired dimension. Indeed, several years ago I also needed hardwood for an exterior repair, and they came through then. These guys are terrific, and kudos to Fritz for his effort.

Berkeley Mills was commissioned to build a replica of the solid rosewood barn doors from Rosewood House, as Rosewood House and its custom furniture service retired in 2015. During mercury retrograde, the doors were damaged from a motor vehicle accident hit and run. One of the problems faced after dealing with the emergency boardup was who and where can we find a replacement?

When it comes to solid hardwood custom furniture in the Bay Area, who else can you really go to on a professional established level? Berkeley Mills. Price point - $10,000 for a pair of barn doors - was high, but within reason. Measurements on site and CAD design checked out. About a month for build, readiness was a week or two late on delivery eta, not a big deal.

If you have timeline restraints, be sure to stay on top of the build. Berkeley Mills was also hired for installation which is where the value is as the squareness, precision fit and function were superbly executed by their talented craftsman. The communication and process between inquiry, design, and delivery, was clear and punctual. P.S. Please don't ever mention IKEA and Berkeley Mills in the same sentence - it reflects poorly on your understanding of what real hardwood legacy furniture is versus pressed glued epoxy veneer laminate college student disposable furniture.

Berkeley Mills doesn't only sell quality products, they stand by them. When my sliding doors purchased from them in 2014 needed a small fix almost 3 years later, they were on the case immediately. The doors are now functioning again like new. Thanks for the excellent customer service! In case you're wondering, no one asked me to update this review. Businesses going the extra mile for customers doesn't always happen. When it does it's worth noting!

What happened to this place? The sign outside is peeling, the kitchens in the showroom looked dirty and beat up and the salesperson ignored us (texting on his phone) when we came in. We're interested in getting locally made new cabinets for our kitchen but clearly they weren't interested enough in us to say hello or ask if we had questions. This place needs a total overhaul and some new employees. Shame they lost our business, a kitchen for them is probably pretty lucrative.

They do unbelievably beautiful work that is just like the fine craftsman of the days of yore that many think is no longer available. Ergo, if you need something beautiful and have the money to pay a craftsman to invest the hours needed to make you something that is truly heirloom quality, Berkeley Mills is the place to go.

We love Berkeley Mills! Every day we appreciate our Berkeley Mills kitchen, bathroom, dining set, beds, dressers, and various other pieces. Each is a work of art. To top off our beautiful Berkeley Mills home we added their custom made doors and trim to match. Expensive - yes. Worth it - absolutely - nothing else compares. We thank Gene, Dave and staff for their knowledge, expertise, and integrity. Even better, no hassles during the remodel therefore making us very happy campers.

Four stars because i am a fan of the pieces they have here. Beautiful tables. However, i just can't ever imagine justifying paying 10K for a dining room table. Guess i'll be back here when i reach top tax bracket and run out of things i need to buy. Even then maybe i could settle for a dining table that costs 2K, and give 8K to people who are starving.

This is a great place if money means absolutely nothing to you. Is the work good? Yes. Is it that good? No way. Hard to justify $8,000 for a credenza, etc. But, I guess there are a lot of people out there with lots of quan. Like they say, "there's a sucker born every day."

For the ultra high end milling project if you have the budget and you have the patience. Lovely options for either simple solutions or trying mill out furniture for a custom entertainment counsel. If you are working on any kitchen cabinetry option and would need something unique, out of the ordinary Home Depo alternative, Berkeley Mills is your place. They will make anything and everything to fit, but remember, measure twice and cut once, as you can't "stretch" it.

Nice, nice nice stuff. It's too bad I've got good taste and an IKEA budget. Anyway, I have been eying the slate back bed for some time. 6,460.00. Lots o' money.

We've been buying pieces over the years, generally when the economy is circling the drain and Berkeley Mills has sales. Great quality and friendly staff. If Gene is around, ask him about the childrens' books he's written. He lives near my kid's ex-school, and his house and yard look like his furniture.

Every time I visit my aunt's house I am struck by the gooourgeous wood piece (to call it furniture would be inappropriate) that sits in the foyer. It's a cabinet with all these soft swoops and gentle lines that just makes me drool. She's deeply commited to Berkeley Mills and I'm working up the courage to drop some cash on this house bling!

This place has some beautiful furniture. All originally designed and made in their workshop, which you can see through a window in their showroom. Modern looking wood pieces with subtle Asian accents. Larry Elison (CEO of Oracle Corporation) bought a really fancy looking patio table here. Prices are in the $$$$ + get an additional job range.
