Earthsake is a small family-owned business founded in 1990, a conscious tribute to the twentieth anniversary of Earthday. Earthsake grew out of the idea that new and innovative earth-friendly products were being introduced daily, but were difficult to locate. These products, if used, could make a difference in solving many of the environmental issues we are encountering.
Earthsake established a trend that has now taken hold as many more retailers begin to carry earth-friendly products - but we remain a step-ahead by sourcing only the highest in quality luxury earth-friendly products with our core products coming primarily from organic, pure, & local sources (as close to home as possible).

Each mattress purchase will produce approximately 100 masks for health care & essential workers. The earthSake mattress was the first and is the best organic mattress made with local organic ingredients. We did it right the first time, in 1990, before "organic" was a certified thing and "green" was just a color.
The masks use our local organic materials. You can help increase our supply of these materials and support our production of local organic masks simply by purchasing any of our earthSake branded products ** Medical grade masks are not available for purchase at this time to maintain the USA PPE supply.

I purchased a $128 Coyuchi "cloud brushed organic fitted sheet" and it arrived with an area of several tears. It is totally unusable. I bought it as a gift and didn't open the sheet for over a month. When I realized the issue I was already outside of their 30 day return policy. I just emailed Earthshake but don't expect a replacement since it has been longer than 30 days but will update this review if they replace the product.
Otherwise I unfortunately won't ever buy from them again and can't recommend their products. *Since seeing the response from Earthshake I have emailed Coyuchi directly to follow up with a direct return. Update- Coyuchi won't honor their 365 day return policy if product is purchased through a 3rd party retailer. I emailed this to Earthsake asking to return the sheet to them to see if they could return it to Coyuchi on my behalf as was offered in their email but haven't heard back a week later. Earthsake should at least honor the return policy of the brands they sell, and also not sell product from vendors that ship damaged/unusable product. First don't buy Coyuchi product, but if you must then don't buy it from Earthsake.

Finally tried out our new pillows last night and we love them!. It feels great to sleep on bedding that is completely natural. The products at this store are top of the line. The owner, Heather, was very patient with me as my search for the perfect pillow wasn't easy. We sleep with our child so my dream of a firm pillow has to wait. I ended up getting a firm wool wrapped latex pillow for my husband (I plan to borrow it sometimes!) and a wool only pillow for me and my child.
We both love our pillows. The wool pillow actually turned out to work well for me. I'm really happy and I must thank the great owners of this store for their kindness and patience during my shopping experience.

Purchased an air purifier from Earthsake because of the wild fires, smoke, and ash in San Francisco. The customer service was excellent, the price was fair, and when I said I had no place for it to be delivered they graciously worked out details for me to go pick it up at the business warehouse. The Bliss mattress I purchased from them 7 years ago still provides night after night of comfortable sleep. I have, and will continue to highly recommend this store to family and friends.

Just called to confirm purchase I have in online shopping cart and to inquire about an offer on their website "free delivery for purchase over 250" (excluding furniture). Sales rep first lied (it says excluding mattresses - which it does not) and then went on a tirade "if i only call to complain about the website i should call some 1800 number" and then hang up on me.needless to say my 1000+ dollars will be spend somewhere else. Safe yourself from the attitude! If owner reads these I am happy to provide exact times of call/screenshot of website to teach your staff.

They misrepresented their product. Multiple times I was told (once by the owner, Heather, ) that the mattress would not change firmness. Marketing your product in a way that is not truthful is not okay. In response to my review the management has called my comments "slander." Shows you how much responsibility they actually take for mistakes. But this is just one of many issues. 1.
I spent close to $2500 at this business and am left with a mattress that sinks after only one year. I based my purchase and exchange on how they told me the mattress would behave over time. 2. I had first purchased a pillow-top and then wanted to return or exchange it. They told me that this wasn't their policy. But it doesn't say this on any of my receipts.
Then they acted like they were kind it allowing me to exchange this. For a $2500 mattress no less, that now sinks after I was told that their mattresses do not soften. Yup. Mattresses of poorer quality don't lose their firmness as much as this one has. 3. My mattress was over a month late. A whole month. Again I had to insist and have multiple communications just so the delivery fee would be refunded.
Which doesn't even bring me back to zero. 4. Their staff member insisted that I never returned the pillow top and was rude to me by phone. 5 minutes later she calls me saying they located it. No apology. Overall, don't expect them to be honest or take true responsibility. They'll screw up and then you have to fight with them and they throw you a bone.
Just look at their response to my comment. They respond by misrepresenting the truth. Their "record" of what happened cuts out many many things. I never once threatened them or asked for free product. I can afford to purchase them I don't need free products. I did tell them that I would post a poor review. Which I have. I did ask them to exchange this mattress which was sold to me via false marketing.
To the management: The way you interpret your exchange with your customer, i.e., that I "complain" that the topper isn't right.that I "ask for free product" shows a severe lack of respect for your customers and is incredibly untruthful. Calling my review "slander" far from the truth since I have first-hand experience.

From the moment I walked in the door, after having been to other bedding shops, I was met by staff who showed the right balance of concern and spaciousness. No one hovered over me, nor was I neglected, and every question I had was answered with clarity. I went off to two other shops, came back, and was met with the same level of attention. The mattress that I purchased was delivered within the time-frame I was given, which was long if you expect something to come that week: 4 to 6 weeks. But the wait was well worth it - the mattress is so comfortable, as are the new sheets and topper. I intend to go back again for more sheets and pillows.

Amazing, when I needed to speak with somebody from earthsake they couldn't be bothered to return phone calls. Write a review and the owner or somebody responds in hours. How typical for the owner to respond claiming our review was "fake". sorry but it's was reality. If this guy was so concerned about customers then try performing customer service.

I bought a combination mattress 4-5 years ago: 3-3 layers of latex. Cost about $2000. Firm on the bottom, medium in the middle, soft on top, which was the same combination as the sample bed in the store. When trying it out at the store, it seemed comfortable. At home though, it was too hard. So I exchanged the bottom firm for a medium at an additional cost of $200.
Even then, I woke up with a stiff back and low back pain. At 200 per exchange, I was maxed out on costs. The only thing that helped was to purchase an egg crate topper. I won't buy another pure latex bed again. I did love that it was non-toxic.

Had a freakishly bad experience with Earthsake! Despite how pleasant the retail experience has been for me, to my surprise Earthsake is not at all the quality, professional, service oriented company I assumed it was. A year ago, I bought 2 sets of their premium Legna sheets (over $1,000 each). One of the fitted sheets disintegrated and has a big hole in it (I washed them per the instructions).
When I called them in hopes of a straight forward replacement, the woman on the phone said someone would call back who could help me. No one did. I called again and got an email back saying please send photos of the sheet to prove what happened, which I did. Nothing back. I email *again* and they replied that they'd check with the Legna rep and get back to me. Heard crickets *again*.
A month into this at this point, finally another woman calls and says they're real sorry, but they can't help me because it's been a year since purchase and that's just standard sheets wear and tear. However, she says, Earthsake would be happy to sell me the same fitted sheet again at a 10% discount. Incredulous, I laughed thinking she can't possibly be serious.
She was. Had I known Earthsake was selling me disposable sheets at that cost, I never would have purchased them. I politely suggested she let customers know that at purchase. She thanked me and said sorry about that, that she'd look into if management could do something better for me. True to form, I never heard back. Earthsake is happy to sell pricey sub-par products that they do not stand behind.
Really good customer lost! (I've driven from Marin County just to shop there many times and sent many of my friends and family there too). Really short-sighted decision for them given the power of word-of-mouth and how difficult it is to survive in retail with all the competition, not to mention how many smart brands today provide replacement for defective products, no questions asked. Why? Because they know that customer loyalty is critical for long-term success, and because standing behind what you do is just the right thing to do.

Wow! As a returning in satisfied customer, I would think the sales person would be empathetic or at least hear me out why my purchase is not working and help me solve the problem! Instead, the sales person was not friendly- disrespectful- and down right rude! I purchased a very expensive mattress and not so expensive bed frame and was assured the combo would work- and it didn't.
And the sales person's response was unacceptable. Really upset I spent a lot of money in this place- still haveing horrible back issues because the bed I purchased is adding to my problem instead of helping and the sales people act like this! Won't shop here again!

I was finally in touch with one of the owners of Earthsake (after the initial yelp response, the delay was mine). He was gracious and accommodating - ended up putting me in touch with the manufacturer of the comforter. I tend to buy the more expensive and very well made option when presented with a choice, which means I expect more of those things.
When I spoke with the manufacturer, he was immediately defensive concerning my problem. He told me that a minor repair would be more work (and thus more expensive) than a *NEW* comforter. I laughed at him, which isn't nice, but. seriously? We're talking about a comforter. I'm not camping with this thing. It's on my bed. I sleep under it.
Not complicated. If the manufacturer's excuse for bad design is "it would be expensive to fix" --which it was --I will happily buy elsewhere from craftspeople that design their products to last. Back to Earthsake: again, the owner was very kind when we spoke and genuinely tried to help me, but you can't help a bad product no matter your intentions. Upgrading, but still not ideal because this is the most expensive item that I've ever had to retire because of a pathetic design flaw. I would certainly not buy another one.

Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience with Earthsake. I have enjoyed shopping at Earthsake for 5 years until recently I have a king lambswool Earthsake comforter that shortly after 1 year was in terrible condition. The inside batting balled up and there were areas with no batting at all. I didn't deal with the problem immediately but when I was in the store recently I mentioned it to the manager.
The manager gathered all the details including when I had acquired the comforter and how I had cared for it. She then advised that I bring it in as that should not have happened. After several days they got back to me stating that they can not offer a replacement because it had been over 1 year and also they believed that I had laundered the comforter.
I provided very specific information on how I had cared for the comforter (as directed by the care sheet provided) and certainly never laundered the comforter in any fashion (machine, dry cleaning, etc). The owners continued to say that they believed the comforter had been laundered. It was very frustrating to be advised to bring the comforter back for essentially no reason but then to be accused of being untruthful was humiliating. I picked up the $500 comforter and gave it to Goodwill. Bad product and worse customer service.

A few times a year they have really great sales and I have saved a good amount on large ticket items, such as a loft bed for my daughter and a king size wool comforter for myself. The quality of everything I have purchased over the last decade has been outstanding and long lasting. Occasionally, I'll stroll through the Berkeley location just to see what's new in the natural and organic world of comfort. I'm never disappointed.
Final note, like another reviewer I experienced a price and delivery snafu and the management worked everything out considerably in my favor. They earned a customer for life.

Clean store and friendly staff. They have very small collection of cards and nice smelling soaps, candles, lotions, earrings. small collectibles, nice robes, PJs, towels, bathroom accessories, bed sheets, bedroom furniture, mattress etc. A bit expensive but I guess, they are very well & freedom made;) (most of them are French or Italian make). I felt, it's more like a luxury bath accessories/textile/collectible store rather than a furniture store.
I bought a soap and a card and the person at checkout made few mistakes running my card through and kept on apologizing. Also, the store is mostly useful for moms with infants, as the store carries very nice cribs, bedding and stuffed animals for babies. All of them look so sweet and cute! Definitely checkout if you are expecting.

I purchased organic slippers that upon arrival wouldn't stay on my feet. I contacted Earthsake regarding the return and was told that they didn't refund shipping charges. I asked her to double check because I had never heard of a company charging the buyer for shipping costs both ways on a return. I was then told that they WOULD refund the original shipping charge of $7.99 but I would have to pay shipping to return it so I did just that.
I later received a refund of $22 which only covered the amount I paid for the slipper and NOT the shipping. So here I sit with no slippers and I am out $16 for shipping both on the return and delivery and I was lied to by this company. If I had known that I would have to pay shipping both ways I would have sold them myself. This company needs to remember that it isn't just snooty, rich people in need of organic items but many, many poor and sick individuals with illness' that insurance doesn't cover. Shame on Earthsake! Their behavior in this matter and shipping policy is anything but a service to anyone but themselves. O Stars

I used to ignore this store completely, until I had my second baby and started to pay attention to textiles, towels, and soft and cuddly things again. With sales person Beverly's recommendation, I bought a "luxury" (ie expensive) Italian quilt for my baby, among other things like baby gifts and hand towels for a girlfriend who was having knee surgery.
I love everything I bought. I love the quilt so much I'm going to take it with me to a solo trip to remind me of my baby. I'm a huge textile freak and have different hand towels stacked high in my cabinets, everything from Japanese tenugui to Turkish towels, and the variety and attention to quality is really amazing here. I always find something new.
I have to say Beverly's knowledge about the stuff is the reason I keep coming back to browse and buy. She doesn't necessarily know the prices (she just refers to the catalogue for that), but she really gets what I'm looking for, and the subtle nuances like a certain color or a particular hand. Now I'm drooling over some over the top expensive bedsheets that she pointed out. I will probably get a set to celebrate my birthday. In the meantime, there are many high quality, affordable items here.

Feeling eco-friendly? Earthsake is about pampering and being eco-conscious at the same time. It smells good inside and has a spa-like atmosphere. You'll find snuggly slippers and throws, bed linens, all natural organic mattresses, eye pillows, socks, scarves, organic clothing for women, robes, pajamas, jewelry, massage supplies, soaps, lotions, candles, water bottles, and greeting cards. Bamboo clothing and sheets seem to be the fabric of the moment. Ornaments have nature themes (e.g., birds, acorns).
The kids section is particularly charming, with books, plush sheep pillow toys, and simple/tasteful cotton clothing. My picks: * Cotton onesies that say Oakland or Berkeley on them ($28 each) * Punch out felt ornaments from Roost ($35)

I'm really not in the "fluff stuff, " but I wandered into Earthsake tonight and found it's really a charming little store. There is a collection of eclectic stuff from furniture, silly junk, linen, and potpourri. My kid bought the "I am not a Cup" a few weeks back and now they have colored lids to match your mood. What was really impressive, the sales folk!
These two women were just very kind and helpful. Like Yelper Anna W. yelped, you can just go in there, mess with all the fun stuff like the "The Tingler, " which purports to cure many aliments and "shorten labor?" What was great for me is that these women actually encouraged my "bad behavior." I didn't buy anything yet, but there is a sale this weekend and I think the leopard print rocking chair might be mine. And, I'm getting "The Tingler" too! http://www.bodytimewellness.com/tingler/tingler_video.html

I stopped by 4th Street in Berkeley last Saturday and was early enough to easily find parking. As I was walking on, a self-absorbed Prius driver pulled out of her spot and nearly ran me over. I scooted out of the way as she stared off and oblivious to anything around her. Earthsake sometimes has a similar elitist vibe among its green inclined customers.
And yet the store itself is a more diverse proposition. Its wares are attractive, are of high quality, and at competitive prices. I enjoy browsing around and appreciate the friendliness and service orientation of store staff.

Disclaimer: I'm friends with owners. Despite my disclaimer, Earthsake or Earth sake(the alcohol) as I always want to call it, is a green gal's dream. They sell everything from uber cool artsy greeting cards to candles and organic bath & body products, bamboo sheets to organic beds. Their towels are to die for! They are the fluffiest, softest, most absorbent towels I've ever used.
They come in really cool vibrant, rich colors. Have I used enough adjectives yet? They occasionally have a friends and family discount program, so make sure you sign up for their mailing list. Also, they have a coupon in "EcoMetro Guide" which they sell in the store. Shop people, shop!
